I've been driving for 6 months now, and have started the Advanced Motarists to gain a bit more knowledge and experience while driving.  Been to a couple of their meetings and everyone is friendly and welcoming, so I'll enjoy myself and hopefully progress well enough.

Finished my Public Services course a couple of months ago and gained 3 Merits which is the same as B/C grades at A Levels.  Did well enough for my circumstances, although should have done a lot better.  I'm very glad I got the grades I got and am glad to be out of that class.

Started another course - one of my 2 greatest passions - animals.  Well, Animal Management.  This will lead me into doing various jobs, such as Animal Welfare Officer or zoologist or wildlife photographer.  It's something I have always wanted to do.

Although I'm still at home (and have finally realised my passion), my mum has allowed me to purchase a couple of pets.  I agree on her reasoning that having a couple of small animals will help me with this course.  She's banned all animals from the house, apart from hamsters, and it now seems, degus.  She was rather taken by me showing her leaflets, pictures and videos of degus and she seems wiling to allow them to habit the home with us.  If I get a pair, they'll be photoed and put up here.

Degus are amazing wee pets. If you want a small pet, go for degus; they're nothing but a barrel of laughs. My boys make me laugh at least once a day. Plus they're intelligent and determined wee animals.

I've had my boys for about 9 months now; they are such characters. Widgit is a wee bit of a bully but loves a cuddle, while Sprocket loves running on his wheel but likes to watch people. Sprocket is now wanting to be held for a short length of time; he had to get eye drops and saline for a bad eye and horrible bites (thanks to Widgit being horrible) and didn't like being handled until about 3 weeks ago. I had to bribe him a bit with peanuts and used a soft toothbrush to groom him; he even groomed me back. They either think that they are tiny, but furry, people, or we're huge, but furless, degus. Both are intelligent; they know how to manipulate their surroundings. Widget loves branches and sticks off pear trees; if he's in his pen, he'll drag sticks around that are at least as heavy as him. He'll even drag them back to his cage to bring them near, or into, his nest. He escaped from his cage today; I was handling Sprocket and desensitise/train him a bit more and all I saw was this degu jumping from his cage and over a wee barrier (to collect sawdust and hay they throw out while digging). Poor Sprocket had to be put back into the cage while I chased Widgit on his victory/freedom lap of the dining room. I had to corner him and put him in a huge (glass) beer tankard; he gave me puppy-eyes as I gently emptied him out into his cage.

I highly recommend these wee animals as they are amazing to watch, funny to play with and talented beyond words. I love animals and can't really compare them to another animal; if I had to, it'd probably be a dog - both animals seem eager to please, funny to watch and talented beyond words. Plus, degus can live for a long time; between 5 and 8 years is average, while some have been recorded as 12-13 years old.
